KöR is an advanced teeth whitening treatment that is very popular with our patients at Old Town Dentistry. It uses a special bleach to quickly and efficiently remove stains and discolorations from the enamel of your teeth.
After their teeth whitening treatment, patients can expect their teeth to look whiter and feel smoother. They will also notice a significant improvement in their self-confidence thanks to their brand-new bright smile.
Food and drinks are some of the most common culprits of tooth discoloration. The enamel on our teeth is porous; over time, it can become stained from exposure to dark-colored liquids like coffee or red wine. Tobacco can also stain your teeth, yellowing them and making your smile less appealing than before.
Other causes of dental discoloration include infections, certain medications, and even aging. As we get older, our dentin can become darker naturally. This can make our teeth appear dull and yellowed.
Most people are candidates for professional teeth whitening treatments. Professional whitening provides the most dramatic results and is the most effective at addressing more complex cases of staining and discoloration.
However, not all patients are good candidates. Those with severe tooth decay or gum disease may need additional restorative treatment before receiving cosmetic dental treatments.
Both in-office and at-home professional teeth whitening treatments produce great results. The difference is in the convenience as well as the time it takes to see results.
In-office whitening is performed in our office, usually in a single visit that takes about an hour. A professional at-home whitening kit can be used at your convenience over a few weeks to gradually brighten your smile. The benefit of at-home kits is that you can wear your trays during the day or while you sleep.
Professional whitening products are much stronger than those you can purchase over the counter and some patients experience sensitivity with over-the-counter kits that do not occur with professional treatment.
In-office whitening may be a better option if you are a smoker or have other teeth stains that are hard to remove. If your teeth have yellowed due to drinking dark beverages such as coffee, tea, soda, or red wine, an at-home kit may work for you.
Whichever type of teeth whitening you choose, the results should be long-lasting if you continue a good oral hygiene routine and avoid staining food and drinks.
